Individual, self-employed and small business returns, prepared by a real preparer and filed nationwide.

Every return is read by a person, explained before you sign it, and supported after April.

An advance is an optional loan from our partner bank against your expected refund — not the refund itself, and approval isn't guaranteed. Read how it works before you decide.

Before you file anywhere

Does this sound like you?

You filed with an app last year and still don't understand what you signed.
You started a business or side hustle and nobody explained what changes at tax time.
You have 1099s, cash income or expenses you were never sure how to report.
You have a year or two you never filed, and it's been sitting on your mind.
Your last preparer stopped answering the phone the day after your refund landed.
You moved or worked remotely, and now more than one state wants a return.
You got a letter from the IRS and put it in a drawer.
You owe, and you don't know what your actual options are.

Software fills in boxes. A preparer asks you questions.

That's the whole difference. The deductions people miss aren't hidden in the tax code — they're hidden in the part of your year nobody asked you about.

Complete intake

Answer the questionnaire below — about two minutes. It tells your preparer what to expect before you send a single document.

Upload documents

You get a link to your secure portal. Photograph your W-2s, 1099s and ID with your phone and upload them there — no email attachments, no texting your Social Security number.

We prepare

Your preparer builds the return, checks it, and comes back with questions if something's missing. Nothing is guessed at.

Review & sign

You see the full return and the number before anything is transmitted, and you sign electronically once you're satisfied.

We e-file

We submit to the IRS and your state and send you confirmation when the return is accepted. Track your refund from there.

Already started with us? Add a document to your file as soon as it shows up in the mail. Never send tax documents by text or email.

Complicated year, business return, or a letter you don't understand? Book a time and we'll walk through it before anything is prepared.

Meet your tax expert

Hello, I'm Julisa Burch. I help individuals, families and business owners file accurately while making sure nothing they're entitled to gets left behind.

Whether this is your first time filing or you're leaving a preparer who stopped answering the phone, you can expect the same thing here: a return read by a person, an explanation before you sign, and a door that stays open after April.

As a mother, entrepreneur and woman of faith, I see a filed return as more than a refund. It's proof you're current, documentation for the loan officer, and one less thing keeping you stuck.

Work with me

Three things people need most between filing and their refund. The first two open on the IRS's own site.

Have your filing status, exact refund amount and SSN or ITIN ready. Refund timing is set by the IRS, not by us.

Your balance, payment history, transcripts and digital copies of IRS notices. You'll verify your identity with ID.me the first time.

Most IRS letters carry a deadline. Send it over and we'll tell you what it's asking for and what to do next.

Frequently asked questions

Filing with MST

When can I actually file?
The IRS sets the date it starts accepting returns each year — usually late January. We open intake January 2 so your documents are in and your return is ready to transmit the moment the IRS opens. Filing early mostly buys you a calmer preparer and a shorter queue.
What documents do I need?
A photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone on the return, all W-2s and 1099s, and your bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit. Self-employed filers add income and expense records. If you claim dependents, bring proof of residency such as school or medical records. Your preparer sends a checklist built for your situation.
Can I really do all of this from my phone?
Yes. Intake, document upload, questions, review and electronic signature all happen in the client portal, which is built for a phone screen. In-person appointments are available in Metro Detroit if you'd rather sit down with someone.
Do you file for clients outside Michigan?
Yes. MST Tax Collective files nationwide, and multi-state returns are routine here.
Is my personal information safe?
Sensitive documents are collected only through secure onboarding. Never send your ID, Social Security information, account numbers or portal logins by text or email, and don't enter them in the questionnaire on this page.

Refunds & timing

How fast will my refund come?
The IRS controls that, not us, and we won't promise you a date. Most electronically filed returns with direct deposit are issued within 21 days of acceptance. By law, returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit can't be released until mid-February, no matter when you file.
How does the refund advance work?
It's an optional loan from our partner bank, applied for when your return is filed, and repaid out of your refund when the IRS releases it. Approval depends on the bank's underwriting and your expected refund — you may be approved for less than $7,500 or declined. All fees and terms come from the bank in writing before you accept. [CONFIRM BANK PARTNER AND SEASON DATES.]
Can you guarantee my refund amount?
No, and be careful with anyone who does. Your refund is determined by your income, withholding, credits and the tax law — not by who prepares the return. What we can promise is that the return is accurate and that you'll understand it.
What if I owe instead of getting a refund?
We'll tell you as soon as we know, not after it's filed. Then we walk through your options — paying in full, an IRS installment agreement, or adjusting your withholding so next year looks different.

Costs

How much does preparation cost?
It depends on the forms your return actually needs. You get a flat quote in writing before any work starts, and it doesn't change unless your situation does. [ADD YOUR STARTING PRICE.]
Can my fee come out of my refund?
[CONFIRM WHETHER YOU OFFER REFUND-TRANSFER FEE DEDUCTION, WHICH BANK PROVIDES IT, AND WHAT THE BANK CHARGES FOR IT.]
Do you charge for prior-year returns separately?
Yes — each tax year is its own return and its own quote. If you have several unfiled years, we'll price them together and tell you which order to file them in.

Your situation

I got a letter from the IRS. Can you help?
Send it over. We'll read it, explain what it's asking for, and help you respond. Don't ignore it — most letters have a deadline. [CONFIRM WHETHER THIS IS INCLUDED IN YOUR FEE OR BILLED SEPARATELY.]
I haven't filed in a few years. Is that a problem?
It's common, and it's fixable. We prepare unfiled years in the right order so you can get current. In some cases you're owed refunds you haven't claimed — though refunds generally expire three years after the original due date.
I just started a business. What changes?
Quite a bit — how income is reported, what you can deduct, whether you owe quarterly estimates, and sometimes a separate business return. That's a good conversation to have before filing season, not during it.
Someone claimed my dependent. What now?
Tell us in the questionnaire. There's a defined process for this, it needs documentation, and it usually means a paper filing. We'll walk you through it.

Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM. Closed weekends and holidays. Messages sent after hours are answered the next business day.
